Using the AQ Designer Plug-In for Revit Effectively – Q & A
Q: Can I change the tag value from the item number to mark?
A: Yes, but as the AQ tag is read-only, the edit would be saved in the Revit project only.
Q: How can I add and/or link a custom stainless family and merge it with the AQ schedule/quote?
A: To complete this task follow these steps:
- In the Revit project, select the Revit family which you want to link.
- Using the AQ sync tool, check the AQ item you would like to link the Revit family to.
- In the AQ Sync tool ribbon, click the “Link Selected” icon - A green check in the Qty Sync indicates a successful link.
Please note: This applies to loadable families only – the AQD Revit Plug-In will not link or edit modeled in-place families.
These same steps will also allow AQ to sync custom-built families.
Q: How accurate is the utility information in AQ? Do they match the spec sheet values for that piece of equipment?
A: Utility data in Revit AQ schedules are linked to the AQ Catalog, ensuring the information is up-to-date and accurate. The AQD Plug-In does not automatically edit utility parameters hosted within Revit families. You can use AQ’s exclusive Parameter tool to edit utility parameters to be consistent with AQ’s utility data.
Q: What if I have multiple rooms inside one project? Can I have multiple projects that link to one model? Ex: A stadium with multiple concession areas or pantries
A: Yes, but you can only be linked to one project at any given time. If you have multiple AQ projects that are referencing a single Revit project you can’t work on those simultaneously. You can have multiple AQ projects linked to a single Revit project but you will have to work on those separately.Using the native Revit filtering section is the easiest way to select specific items that are in view in a specific Revit project. If you are working on a project with multiple levels, you can set up separate AQ projects for each level or room but make sure you are are using the native Revit selection filter (not the broad category selection) so you are only selecting the items in that particular drawing when using AQ’s Parameter tool.
Q: How can I confirm an item in AQ is linked to Revit?
Successful linking of items between Revit and AQ can be confirmed using the AQ Sync Tool in the AQ Tools ribbon. The AQ Sync Tool window will display a green checkmark in each row of the Qty Sync column when an item is successfully linked. If an item is showing a red X the item is not linked OR there is a quantity error between the AQ and Revit projects.
Q: Are hand sinks and other plumbing fixtures brought in as specialty equipment or plumbing equipment?
It depends on how the Revit family is built. Categorization is integrated into the family at creation, however the category of a family can be edited manually using the native Revit function to change the category from plumbing to specialty equipment.
Q: Can I use my own Revit families or families created by a third-party?
No problem. The AQD tool can read the manufacturer and model parameters and add it to a specification in AQ.
Q: When a linked family is copied inside Revit does the quantity change in AQ?
The quantity will not automatically update in AQ but you will get a visual notification that your quantities are out of sync. You can then manually make the change to the quantity in your AQ project.
Q: Can you have the same items that have a different tag?
The AQ Plugin for Revit tagging tool inserts a multi-category tag linked to the AQ project item number. This feature does not prevent additional tagging using native Revit tagging functions.
